if you somehow didn't know, i love music. music has always been something i could confide in even during my worst days, connect with other people without having to directly talk to them. i struggle to be completely direct and vulnerable, and music has always been a way for me to express how i feel as indirectly as possible
radio music was something i enjoyed as a kid. not just on top of the fact it meant i couldn't talk to family when it was on (which was a plus), but even if a chunk of it wasn't the peak of artistic expression, it kept me creatively fulfilled to some extent. this peaked when i got on the internet (albeit way too young) and was able to find music that didn't play on the radio, which blew my mind at the time
however, there was nothing more comforting for me during my more miserable tween and teenage years than vocal synths. the 'edgiest' miku songs that were out there kept me grounded, even when i was unable to express how i felt at the time. the downright gorgeous illustrations to accompany those songs made me desperate to draw and hone my abilities. it very well changed the trajectory of my life and what i wanted to do
as i approach my 9th year of miku obsession (as i write this, january 2026), i still take great comfort in vocal synths and i don't think i will ever stop listening to them. it's merged nicely into my general taste in music that it feels very natural to sit beside my more "basic" musical subcultures, which i hope this page can show to some extent
